“My husband beats me every day but I cannot leave the marriage” A Nairobi woman says

Harriet Atieno 28 years of age shares how her husband used to beat her each day but she found no reason to leave the marriage. Her husband started with calling her abusive words and using vulgar language to her. With time, things became even worse as he started beating her thoroughly.

“It became a norm. The first thing after he came back from his job was to start an argument which resulted to blows and kicks. Dents and beating marks were all over my body. A lot of people especially our neighbors advised me to leave the marriage but I told myself maybe with time my husband would change,” she said.

At one time he kicked her and injured one of her left ribs. This day she says she thought her husband was prepared to end her life. At the hospital she always lied to the doctors that they were minor injuries which she had injured herself.
