Bunyore: Hatimaye nimeacha mihadarati – A man narrates on the steps he took to stop drug addiction

On a rare occasion, a man identified as Makhanu has come out to disclose on how he was a drug addict but through the intervention by a powerful traditional doctor he was able to quit as he no longer uses drugs.

Makhanu who is a resident of Bunyore says he was introduced to drug abuse by peer influence back in 2019 when he was at his first year in campus. He claims that after using the same drugs for about three months consecutively, it was so hard for him to quit from consuming drugs. Among the drugs he used was; cocaine, bhang, cigarettes, miraa.

“I found it difficult to quit taking the drugs due to addiction. I could even fake sickness in order for my parents to send me money to look for medication but in real sense I wanted to purchase the drugs whenever I packed money. I came to realize that I was doing the wrong thing but it forced me to do it because all the attempts to quit were unable.” Makhanu said. He claims that, it was a usual thing for him to do as he couldn’t do without the drugs despite it not being a basic need for him.

He used to use drugs until 2021 when he was at his third year in the University. Here is when his parents realized that their son was a drug addict after his father received a call from one of the lectures telling him that his son was using drugs and that has impacted to poor performance in his studies. “My father called me with anger and badly confronted me and threatened not to pay my fees should the allegations by the lecturer was true, that’s when I had to look for alternatives to stop taking drugs to prove him wrong.” Makhanu stated.

Makhanu claims that he came to know about Dr. Mugwenu through a post on Facebook of a person who was a drug addict and through his help, he stopped taking drugs. He also decided to look for him by calling the number he obtained from the post. He says he went and secretly met Dr. Mugwenu who helped him quit from drug addiction and concentrated on his studies where he successfully graduated from the University last year with a first class honors through Dr. Mugwenu’s assistance.
